Artist Christine Stoddard

What with Turkey Day and Christmas...

Despite experiencing the stress that naturally comes with preparing for the holidays, I've been productive in my creative endeavors. This is what I've done over the past month. (Could I please have a drumroll?)
  • Updated QuailBellMagazine.com with new art, stories, and videos everyday.
  • Started working on Quail Bell Magazine's first book anthology.
  • Completed my first semester as an AmeriCorps team member at Carver Elementary, where I assist a first grade classroom with art and literacy projects. Soon my Team Leader and I will be printing and assembling a small storybook I illustrated and handing out copies to the children.
  • Created a new edition of Quail Bell Express: Issue One. My sister, Nina Stoddard, took copies to the Brooklyn Comics and Graphic Arts Festival. Hopefully I'll be distributing copies around Richmond, VA and Washington, D.C. soon.
  • Snagged a temp job as an editorial  assistant at Virginia Living Magazine (Jan. 9-Feb. 24).
  • Confirmed that I'll be working for the Capital News Service (a senior seminar class in Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Mass Communications that covers General Assembly news for various Virginia media.)
  • Landed an art show at Virginia Commonwealth University's English Department office, in honor of Josephine Stone. It goes up in late January.
  • Acted in Mystery Dinner Playhouse's "A Holiday Whodunnit" and secured a role in their next production.
  • Finalized the voice over I did for a video for the Virginia State Golf Association (shot and directed by D.J. Granger).
  • Worked on my book manuscript, which is due in just a few days.
  • Burned dozens of copies of Dragon Love, an album I made with Josh Lindgren almost two years ago. I then packaged the CDs and taped them inside of Comicality, the comics magazine I co-edited with David Fuchs. I still have to distribute several hundred copies of Comicality; now that I'm back in town, I'm putting out copies here and there everyday.
  • Brainstormed and plotted for secret projects I'll reveal at a later date! (February 15th is an important date for a certain documentary of mine...)
Luckily I have a great group of friends, family, and collaborators who've kept me sane over the past month and done their share to make my projects possible. Thanks again for your love and support, folks!
