Butterflies
Butterflies is a poetry film centered on the poem by the same title, written by Teri Elam. It stars Disnie Sebastien and was scored by Deniz Zeynep. It was commissioned by the 2020 Visible Poetry Project and is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video UK. It has been featured in CURA, a journal published by Fordham University, Sanctuary Magazine, the Huntington Beach Cultural Cinema Showcase, the BronzeLens Film Festival, the Northwest Film Forum's Cadence Video Poetry Festival, the Bijou Film Festival, and NPower Network, a Roku channel.
Butterflies was included in my artist feature in the February 2021 edition of Sanctuary Magazine, an international women's publication. The feature highlights quotes from other members of the film's team, too. Read the feature here.
As a follow-up to the Sanctuary Magazine feature, the editorial team at my publication, Quail Bell Magazine, asked Teri and Disnie, the Black women on the project, about their thoughts on the film and its themes. Read the interview here.
