2020 Competitions & Curated Series For Quarantine Performances
In Spring 2020, when COVID-19 hit the United States, The Merry Beggars, a NYC-based theatre company, launched a contest for 10-minute radio plays responding to the theme of "quarantine." My play, "Friend Request," won first place out of the 120 responses received from around the world. The radio play was first presented in a Zoom reading hosted by the Benedictine Institute in July 2020. It was produced and released on podcast platforms in October 2020.
Here's the company's official description of the play:
"All our lives have been stopped in their tracks. Coronavirus has made us all confront silence. Loneliness. Fear. But perhaps we're being invited into something deeper. Something that awaits us in the depths of silence. Something that can change us."
