Woodlawn & Pope-Leighey House Writing Residency
In 2016, I was the first-ever Inner Loop Writer-in-Residence at Woodlawn & Pope-Leighey House in Alexandria, Virginia. This historic property had connections to both George Washington and Frank Lloyd Wright. For one week, I was given a desk in the Woodlawn House and participated in community gardening with site partner Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food and Agriculture. I produced work inspired by the life of Eleanor Parke Custis Lewis, granddaughter of Martha Washington and the step-granddaughter/adopted daughter of George Washington.
